2038 OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES IN SWITZERLAND: FROM ZURICH TO TICINO, FROM GENEVA TO GRISON.
Switzerland has a unique opportunity to host the 2038 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This would mark the return of the Games to Switzerland, a country renowned for winter sports, after they were last held in St. Moritz in 1928 and 1948. Switzerland is engaged in close, trusting, and privileged dialogue with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the Switzerland 2038 project. This privileged dialogue means that Switzerland can pursue its candidacy exclusively until the end of 2027.
The bid is supported by the national winter sports associations, Swiss Olympic, and Swiss Paralympic. Together, they founded the “Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2038” association in November 2023 and developed a shared, unique, and innovative vision. This vision aims to strengthen national cohesion, ensure international appeal in the economy and tourism over several years, present Switzerland as an innovative and open country, and, last but not least, give Swiss sport an unprecedented boost that will also benefit the general population.
